Marex was founded in 1973 in Grimstad, on Norway's southern coast, by Eyvin Aalrud. His sons Thomas and Espen took the helm in 1989, and the family still runs the shipyard today — now the most famous producer of quality family boats, with a 28,000 m² facility in Kaunas, Lithuania, 420 dedicated boatbuilders, and a dealer network spanning Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Canada, New Zealand — and now Australia.
